Rituals for softer evenings

Candeline gives the evening back a little of the softness it has lost. As the light fades and you are finally allowed to slow down, two small gestures are enough to close the day, set down what weighs on you, then gather what was good.

The house

Giving the evening back the softness it has lost

There was a time when the end of the day had a name, the veillée. When night fell, people gathered around a lamp, spoke in low voices, and simply let the day settle before going to sleep. That soft border between bustle and rest, little by little, we have lost, and many feel it without quite being able to name it.

Candeline was born of that absence. We are a small stationery house, and our idea holds in a few words, to invite you to stop for a few minutes in the evening and care for yourself without any fuss. We believe in small regular things far more than in grand upheavals, and in your own rhythm far more than in any rule handed down from outside.

The evening ritual

Two gestures, every evening

Our whole world turns around one hour, the one when the day draws to a close. The evening ritual asks for no talent, no equipment, no time you do not already have. Two simple gestures, always in the same order, and your day can finally come to rest.

1

Release

Set down what weighs on you

Writing a few words before sleep helps the mind close its tabs. What is set on paper no longer needs to turn in your head, the worries, tomorrow’s tasks, the tensions of the day, all that we hold without meaning to.

2

Savor

Gather what was good

Our gaze lingers readily on what was missing. Taking the time to notice the good moments of a day, even the smallest ones, trains that gaze to see differently, and softness, the more we notice it, begins to multiply.

In that order, because we cannot take in the softness of a day while the mind is still full of its noise.
